Statkraft sells 50% of Irish offshore wind portfolio for €4bn
2022-12-08
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' (CIP) fund, via its Copenhagen Infrastructure IV K/S (CI IV) fund, has acquired a 50% stake in Statkraft's 2.2GW Irish offshore wind portfolio. This venture will include the joint development of three phases of the North Irish Sea Array off Dublin and the Bore Array project in the Celtic Sea; investments for both projects are estimated to exceed €4bn ($4.33bn) by 2030.
Statkraft's offshore wind head David Flood expressed excitement for this development: "Ireland has so much renewable energy that is largely untapped – this partnership with CIP will bring clean power to its people". In addition, Gry Aamodt, Statkraft's head of offshore wind in Norway, highlighted the importance of this agreement with CIP: "It grants us access to expertise and experience from both bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind projects which will help us shape our projects in Norway".
Statkraft is one of Europe's largest generators of renewable energy, mostly stemming from hydro power in Norway. The company is also rapidly expanding its wind and solar energy capacity in key markets such as Ireland or India. This deal signifies a major milestone for Statkraft as it continues to build up its presence within Northern European offshore wind.
