JUWI Gruppe recently announced the imminent completion of an ambitious solar-plus-storage project at the Sukari gold mine in Egypt, owned by a government entity and Centamin Plc (LON:CEY). This is set to become the largest such system in the world.

The complex consists of a 36 MW solar farm composed of bifacial PV panels mounted on trackers, plus a 7.5 MW battery energy storage facility integrated into the existing diesel power station. The company estimates that this groundbreaking setup will save up to 70,000 litres of diesel each day, resulting in average annual savings of 22 million litres - as well as reducing operating costs and cutting carbon emissions. JUWI has extensive experience with solar-plus-storage projects for the mining industry; it has already delivered several such installations in Australia and Africa. This project represents another milestone in its ongoing commitment to renewable energy solutions
