The United Arab Emirates and Jordan have come together to explore the possibility of developing 2 GW of wind projects, an initiative taken as part of a broader renewable energy partnership between both countries. During the COP27 summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh and Masdar's chairman Sultan Al-Jaber signed an MoU that would set out cooperation between the two nations. The agreement aims to exchange knowledge on green technology for setting up qualification and training programs for engineers and experts.
At present, Jordan has 2,526 MW of green generating capacity which accounted for 29% of its power mix during the first seven months this year. Additionally, renewable power plants produced 5.5 TWh which is equal to 26% of the electricity mix in 2021. With this new venture, Jordan desires to increase its renewable energy share to 50% by the end of this decade.
With both countries coming together, this endeavor will bring forth greener and more efficient methods for producing better energy sources and help improve the quality of life in Jordan while ensuring a sustainable future.
